Growing pomegranate in nature
Pomegranate loves bright light and requires lighting without shadow. If it feels lack of light, it will not bloom. For ripening fruit requires a long and hot summer, and not very cold and short winter, as the plant can withstand temperatures not lower than -12 degrees.
Pomegranate is bred with grains, cuttings, layering and grafting on seedlings. From grains to grow quite troublesome, difficult and long. The best option is to buy a ready seedling and then cultivate. Seedling planted in a place with maximum access to the sun's rays. Water the plant 2-3 times a week in the first month after planting, then watering is reduced to 1 time per week.
Fruiting pomegranate depends on the seedling. If the cutting or cutting is to wait 6-7 years for the crop, and if the seedling is stronger, the first fruits will appear in the third year after planting. The maximum fruit production reaches 8-10 years.
The tree lives on average 50-70 years, but there are some long-lived bushes.Pomegranates grow in parks in Paris that have been bearing fruit for more than 200 years, and in Azerbaijan for more than 100 years. There are rare specimens that are almost 3 centuries old.
Pomegranate is so unpretentious that it grows in almost any soil. It grows amazingly on clay and acidic soil when it is warm and sunny. It belongs to the family of shrubs and grows up to 6 meters in height.
If we talk about industrial plantings of a crop, then the soil is prepared in the classical way - at first plowed annual plants that are specially grown, like organic fertilizer, this is called green manure. Then fertilizers are applied, manure is added, special plows are used for deep tillage (plantazh), before planting drilled holes and planted. It turns out a nursery for pomegranates. Acquired seedlings from such nurseries get along well at home.
We grow pomegranate at the dacha
Pomegranate can be grown on the summer cottage, if the land is fertile. A hole is dug out with a size of 60x60x60cm, on the bottom of which an upper layer of soil is placed, since it is more fertile, a sapling is put, it is buried and watered.
If the soil is heavy, clayey, with low oxygen saturation, it is advised to add river sand, and if the soil is sandy - to add fertile soil. In case of planting, mineral fertilizers, manure or humus should not be added to the hole in any case; they do this no later than 3 months before planting.
Seedlings deepen centimeters 10 lower than they grew in the nursery. This is done in order to form an additional root system, and the plants are better settled. It is better to arrange seedlings at an angle of 45 degrees in the direction of the row, which in the future will make it easy to cover the bushes for the winter.
- After planting, carefully seal and pour the soil around the seedling to avoid the formation of voids.
- After 1 day, once again water and mud the soil with leaves or dark sawdust (half-rotted).
- Water the seedlings at least 1 time per week. Feed by foliar method crystal on the leaf, in May and June. 10 liters of water (bucket) - 15-20 grams of fertilizer will be enough for 10 acres.
- Crystal well stimulates the growth and flowering of plants, it is very economically beneficial and environmentally friendly.
- Periodically process the soil, removing weeds.
Cover the pomegranate in November.Shrubs are tilted, tied to the stakes that will stand constantly, they shovel with earth that is between the rows. Believe me, all this will be rewarded a hundredfold, when in the summer the bushes will smell sweet and floral, and in the winter, when you celebrate the New Year, you can treat your guests with your own pomegranate fruits!
How to grow pomegranate at home
In plant growers, lovers of domesticated crops, the most popular is the pygmy pomegranate, which begins to blossom in the thief year of life.
- For planting a dwarf pomegranate, a small but wide vessel will fit, as the plant has a developed root system. Soil is taken weakly.
- Pomegranate is easy to grow, even on the windowsill, if there is a lot of heat and sunlight.
- The flowers are very beautifully located almost throughout the entire crown, only at home there are not so many of them, and the fruits of the dwarf pomegranate are small, 5-6 cm.
Not everyone can boast of a pomegranate tree on the windowsill, which will complement the curtains and decorate the interior.
Crown plants are formed 2 times a year, in spring and autumn. Autumn pruning more thorough than spring. Also monitor the condition of moisture, the soil should be wet. In the summer, the pot is carried out to a balcony or loggia, and with the onset of cold weather they are removed to a cool room (at that time the leaves are falling). The optimum temperature for wintering is about 15 degrees. Feeding in the winter is not required. Since the shrub is “sleeping”, watering is limited, but it does not allow the soil to dry out. In the spring, as soon as the young leaves appear, fertilizing is resumed.
