Bullfighting: history and traditions
By the time Spain was united and the reconquista was completed, the bullfight had become the entertainment of the noble class. Only the caballeros or knights fought with the bulls, a similar pastime replaced the fierce battles with the Moors, it allowed men to test themselves again.
By the 16th century, most major holidays could no longer be without corrida. In Madrid, similar fights with the bulls were staged on the main square, where all the important events of the kingdom took place - from coronation celebrations, during which the kings personally went out to the people, to the auto-da-fe. In the middle of the XVI century, the Pope issued a special edict, which prohibited the bullfight. However, the king of Spain, Philip II, achieved the cancellation of the edict, because he believed that this game hardens courage, which is the main feature of this Spaniard.
Spanish playwrights of the XVI-XVII centuries often took to the scene a hero wounded in a battle with a bull, extolling his courage. It should be noted that in the middle of the 17th century, torero-professionals first appeared in Spain, and not only horsemen, but also footmen. This meant that the bullfight lost its exclusivity, became accessible to commoners, because the aristocrats could not engage in the craft, such a "job" for them would be a shame.
At the beginning of the XVIII century the Spanish throne was occupied by the representative of the French Bourbon dynasty - Philip V, who perceived bullfight as wildness. Therefore, bull fighting was strictly prohibited. The return of this tradition occurred only after the death of the monarch, but the bullfight has changed a lot. It was then that she began to resemble modern - with a bull a foot trooper-professional fought. Mortal game with the bull became like a dangerous, tragic ballet with geometry and a variety of mandatory pieces. The bullfighter did not just kill the bull, he had to do it beautifully, gracefully and necessarily risky, because that was the point of this harsh entertainment.
Bullfishes are attended by special breed bulls, most reminiscent of tours. These animals are grown on special farms.
Corrida - strictly regulated action. First, the torero must demonstrate his courage, to wear out the bull. He does it with the help of mulet. So called a small cloak of red color, stretched on a short wooden stick. Using muleta, as bait and a means to tease the bull, the torero reaches the closest approach with the enraged animal. After the animal is tired and exhausted, the bullfighter should stab him with a sword. To do this, the torero must introduce his sword into the gap between the ribs to cause the animal to die quickly and easily, hitting him directly in the heart. Usually a torero takes several attempts to get to the right place.
