It's been proven for a long time that flat antennas are good at receiving terrestrial digital broadcasting signal with frequency modulation based on COFDM technology. From this I had an idea to make a simple street antenna from a plastic pipe and a metal grid. The design is very unpretentious and does not require any scarce parts or tools.
Materials and tools
- PVC pipe 4 cm in diameter and 80 cm long.
- Galvanized wire with a diameter of 2, 7 mm.
- galvanized or copper wire with a diameter of 0.8 mm.
- galvanized wire mesh.
- 4 rectangular plastic plates.
- bolts, nuts and washers.
- rod with male thread.
- Antenna power supply.
- a hacksaw.
- a screwdriver.
Making a simple broadband television antenna
To install plastic plates, cut four windows about 3 cm wide in the tube, at a distance of 20 cm from each other. Bend a rod of 2.7 mm of wire in the form of a letter V. The sides are 20 cm apart, the ends are spread out 12 cm apart. Drill plastic plates in three places: one hole in the center and two along the edges. Connect the plates with the pipe through the central hole. Bolt the V-shaped elements from the wire along their edges. In total, the plate and the wire elements form a dipole.
Preparation of the grid-reflector
Cut a rectangle out of a wire mesh, the sides of which are 2 cm longer than the edges of the installed dipoles. At the edges of the mesh, draw a wire with a diameter of 2.7 mm by looping center.
Fixing the grid-reflector
Attach the grid to the antenna as closely as possible with respect to the dipoles, and make marks on the plastic pipe in the places where the hinges are placed. Making holes in these places, attach the reflector to the plastic pipe through two loops formed with a 2.7 mm wire. The plastic tube should be 7-8 cm away from the grid.
Antenna element connections
In the next step, you need to make connections using copper wire (0.8 mm), as shown in the diagram.
Connecting the connector
After connecting the dipoles, you need to connect the connector for the cable (see diagram). Of course, you can directly connect the cable without a connector. Connecting wires should not be in contact with each other (ie, red with blue).
Installing the antenna on the roof
Install the antenna on the mast using clamps. Insert the plug into the TV and watch TV.This antenna is perfect for receiving digital channels, and analog.
