I suppose that the rocket plate can be made of anything, but I had a few 20 liter tin cans, and I decided to use them as a body. A firebox can be made from anything, and, in fact, a rectangular shape is more effective ... But it's easier to work with a corrugated pipe. This is not an aluminum pipe that will burn quickly, which is used as a chimney. You can use something convenient for you. I met people who managed to make a furnace of cans of regular size. The saucepan for the stove should be well-sized, preferably 2 cm smaller in diameter than the furnace body. Handles should not be plastic, otherwise they will melt. It is also important that there is a suitable lid, because we know that everything boils faster with a lid. It will be better to have two small handles on the sides than one long one, because it will take less space. I used wood ash as an insulating material, but you can use everything that has good insulating properties and does not burn .I heard that people sometimes use vermiculite. I like wood ash because it is free and with it the stove will be quite heavy and therefore more stable.
Cut the top of a tin can. To make a hole, you will need a chisel and a hammer, then use metal shears. While working, you need to remember that you are dealing with sharp edges. At all stages of manufacturing, I was wearing protective gloves and constantly used a file to keep everything sharp. In the second bank, we cut off both the upper and lower parts.
Making the body and pipe

Cut the desired length of the corrugated pipe with a hacksaw and metal scissors. Then, at its edge, make small incisions and with the help of flat-nose pliers align the resulting blades and bend inwards (look at the photo). This is done,so that the edges are not sharp and it was difficult to cut them when starting a fire. Now, in the can with the bottom, we cut a hole for the corrugated pipe. At the side 3 cm above the bottom will be enough. Insert the pipe into the hole and make a bend. The bend angle should be made quite sharp, while the pipe should remain in the center of the can (see photo below).
Make the lid
For this purpose, you can use the lower or upper part of the jar, which we cut out earlier. But I took advantage of the sheet metal that I had at hand. We cut a sheet that will exactly match the shape of the can, with a large hole for the pipe. This can easily be done with an angle grinder or other tool. The sheet should close the jar tightly, however you can not worry much about it, since when shrinking wood ash will be good enough to maintain the stability of the structure.
Time to fill the cavities with insulating material. Especially for this purpose Igathered enough wood ash, which has excellent thermal insulation properties. But it must be dry. The ash should lie tightly enough, as long as it does not have nails or other heat-conducting materials. Tamper it and if you get large pieces of coal, remove them. At first, the ashes can seep at the junction of the corrugated pipe with a tin, but do not worry about it. Over time, it will fall so tightly that it will not sleep anymore. After filling the furnace with insulating material, we cover the case with a lid.
We make the heating surface of the furnace
Some people design rocket furnaces in such a way that the heated dishes are directly on the pipe, for this, several cuts are made on the edge of the pipe so that the air can pass freely.
I prefer to make a heating surface from a gas cylinder. I cut off its part so that there is a space of 20 mm between the upper cut of the pipe and the bottom of the pan.Then I make several slots so that air and fire can pass freely and evenly around the pan. This design will be much stronger than the corrugated tube. The plus would be waste-free use of the used gas cylinder if you want to make another stove from the rest of it.
Making the furnace casing
Now we have heat-insulated fire that will be directed to the bottom of your pan. For more efficient distribution of heat over its surface, we need to make casing This will allow the heat coming out of the oven to pass casually along the sides of the pan, thus increasing heat transfer. We make the height of the casing according to the size of your pan. We cut off a part of the second can so that it sits on the second one, and the pan handle is freely positioned above its upper cut. Put the second can on the first one. You may need to use a hammer for this.
Handles for a stove
The received rocket furnace washes out to be quite heavy, and it will be more convenient to carry it with the help of handles. Some people prefer that the casing is removable. So on the fire it will be possible to put a frying pan and other utensils. I chose to use only the selected pan. This allowed to fix the casing on the furnace body and screw the handles to it. For the production of handles I used the bicycle frame, giving the pipes the necessary shape, drilled several holes and screwed them to the oven. For attaching the handles, I chose a place where two cans overlap one another to make the design more durable. In addition, I fastened the jars with rivets.
When I was making my first furnace, I missed this detail, because I thought that it was not needed. Wrong. It is necessary. From the sheet of metal you need to cut a plate that will be inserted into the corrugated pipe and stick out a little from it.and the air passes from below, allowing the tree to flare up. Quite simply, but very important.
Testing the finished plate
First place the plate so that the camera for feeding firewood is directed upwind. The wind will allow the fire to flare up better. First, the stove is filled with fuel through the top of the pipe. You can use a little paper and thin dry slivers. We bring the fire, let it burn for about a minute. Then we add firewood over the shelf through the side pipe. Wood from above, air from below. We put a pot, it will limit the flow of air, which will create better traction. The wood in such a furnace burns quickly and it is better to use small pieces of wood. They can be pushed inside with a stick. The bark does not burn well,therefore, it is better not to use it as fuel. Dry pine wood will be just right. At the first test, the water boiled for three minutes and it took a little firewood. The result can be considered successful. There is no smoke, no ashes - it burns well. PS Maybe this is obvious, but only dry wood ash serves as a heat insulator. Therefore, do not leave the stove in the rain.
