Year in Review: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge 2016

The Duchess’ Year In Review

2019 has proven to be a stellar year for Kate Middleton. From royal tours abroad, to prestigious charity engagements here in the UK, the Duchess of Cambridge has been busier than ever before – all done alongside raising three-year-old Prince George and 19-month old Princess Charlotte. But the Princess has managed to stay as stylish as ever – sporting her typically chic outfits when out on public engagements, and even landing her very own Vogue cover in the summer. So take a look at the Duchess of Cambridge’s year in review, as we chart just a few of her highlights from 2019…

Becoming a tennis

patronKate is a regular at the Wimbledon tennis finals, annually cheering on the England representative in the summer sunshine. So it was only fitting that in January of this
year, she was made the Official Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis
and Croquet Club – the venue for Wimbledon. This role was handed down to her by the Queen herself, who at the beginning of the year was starting to reduce her duties ahead of her 90th birthday in June. Officially, Kate is the patron of eight causes in total, including charities and art galleries.

Taking on role of Guest Editor at The Huffington PostOn 17th February, Kate took up the position as Guest Editor at The Huffington Post for the day, in order to raise awareness of the campaign,You

Minds Matter.A series coordinated by Kate together with the media outlet, it was designed to open up conversation about children’s mental health. And the cause is an initiative close to Kate’s heart. As an ambassador for the mental health charity Place2Be, it became clear in 2019 that Kate was passionate about raising awareness of the issue.

The royal trio spearheaded a mental health campaignIn April Kate, along with Prince Harry and William, launched a campaign, Heads Together, alongside the mental health charity Mind. A fierce advocate of starting national conversation on the topic of mental wellness, the three young royals vowed that this will be the single biggest project the trio have yet worked on together. The campaign will also be the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon Charity of the Year. In October, Kate and the royal siblings also took a spin on the London Eye to represent their new charity campaign.

An appearance at the Chelsea Flower ShowKate and William made their Chelsea Flower Show debut as a couple in May of this year. The couple have visited the annual event before separately, but 2019 marked their first appearance at the horticultural event together. On the day, our favourite Royal couple also got the chance to view a new flower, named after their daughter – the Princess Charlotte chrysanthemum. Aww…

Kate and William’s tour of IndiaMay was a busy month for the Duchess, as Kate and William – leaving Princess Charlotte and Prince George behind at home – embarked on a two-week tour of India. And as always, with a royal tour comes a slew of incredible outfits – and this time around, Kate’s choices certainly did not disappoint. Perhaps the most memorable of her style picks from her trip East was this stunning Naeem Khan embroidered dress, worn on their final day on a visit to the Taj Mahal.

Celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthdayKate came together with the entire royal clan on the 11th June for The Queen’s Birthday Parade, and debuted one of her most sophisticated looks yet. While the Queen herself went for an extravagant green outfit, Kate displayed a more demure white, bespoke Alexander McQueen coat dress. One of the cutest moments of Kate’s year happened on this day, as Prince George and Charlotte marvelled at the RAF planes flying over the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Landing a Vogue coverKate made history this year with her magazine cover debut in the June issue of British
Vogue, rocking a pared-down, natural look to celebrate 100 years of the
fashion bible. Kate’s shoot for the magazine – her first fashion shoot ever – took place at Amner Hall in
Norfolk, where she lives with William. It’s a tradition carried down by her late mother-in-law Diana, who also graced the cover herself in 1991. Kate later attended an event at the National Portrait Gallery to celebrate the centenary issue of the magazine.

The families Canadian royal tourSeptember and October saw Kate embark on her second official tour of Canada. And the trip was a special one for her and William, as it was the first where they were able to bring along their children, Prince George and baby Charlotte. The trip totalled eight days and began in Victoria, British Columbia on 24th September, ending again there on 1st October. Their adorable families visit abroad brought with it many adorable moments from little Prince George, including his refusal to high-five Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and the picture-perfect moment of him pressing his nose up against the plane window as he prepared to leave the country…

Remembrance SundayBack on 13th November, Kate, along with the Duchess of Cornwall and Sophie Countess of Wessex, attended the annual Remembrance Day service at The Cenotaph. Wearing a black Diane Von Furstenburg coat, Kate watched on as Prince Harry and Prince William made the royal salute at the cenotaph and laid wreaths down. The family were lead by the Queen, who lead the two-minute silence along with fellow heads of state.
