Dornier DO 335 paper fighter model
The paper model of the Dornier DO 335 fighter jet is- a heavy German fighter of the Second World War period, often referred to under the name Pfail (German: “Pfeil”, Strela). The aircraft was more than a revolutionary design, although its layout, with two tandemly located engines, was not entirely new.
Materials and tools:
- scissors, paper knife, drawing ruler
- glue brushes and paint;
- watercolors (or pencils), toothpicks;
- clear acrylic glue ("Moment", etc.);

- To better fold the part, it is necessary to hold the ruler along the fold line, pressing lightly with the blunt side of the knife or a toothpick so as not to damage the paper surface. Better to do it from the wrong side of the part;
- Keep your fingers clean and be sure to use wipes to wipe your hands, because hands may get dirty in the process;
- wind up cylindrical parts before gluing onto a round object of a suitable diameter, this will give them shape;
- Before gluing it is necessary to paint the ends of the part. White crop lines spoil the overall look of the model. To paint the ends, use watercolors or gouache paints. After selecting the desired color, apply them in a thin layer, then allow the paint to dry. About markers better to forget;
- Take your time with gluing. First, cut out the part, paint it from the end, wait for the paint to dry, assemble the part. Attach it to the place where it should be to make sure everything is done correctly. And only then stick. Do not forget to let the glue dry.

The heavy German fighter Dornier DO 335 is a heavy German fighter of the Second World War period, often referred to as Pfeil (German: “Pfeil”, Strela). The plane was more than a revolutionary design, although its layout, with two tandem-located engines, was not entirely new.
In 1942, the «Dornier» won a competition to create a new type of attack aircraft. The features of the single-seat fighter-bomber were the tandem arrangement of the engines, and the cruciform plumage. The first flight took place on October 26, 1943. By the time the American forces seized the Oberpfaffenhofen plant, 13 Do 335A aircraft were built and 15 more were assembled.
In September 1944, formed a special part of Erprobungskommando 335, whose task was to test the Do 335 in combat conditions. Several Do 335A-0 and, possibly, A-1 were transferred there. The task of the pilots of the unit was to develop tactics for using the aircraft as an interceptor, "shnellbomber" (high-speed fighter-bomber) and reconnaissance aircraft. Captain Alfon Mayer became the commander of the detachment.On October 26, 1944, a special order of the Reich Ministry of Aviation (RLM) was sent to numerous anti-aircraft batteries, warning of the appearance of a new German aircraft. In the order, the characteristic features of the machine were reported: a cruciform tail unit and a tandem arrangement of engines.
The cockpit was equipped with a catapulted armchair, a sight "Revi" C12 / D, FuG 16ZY R / T radio compass, FuG 25a and FuG 125a radio stations.
Aircraft from Erprobungskommando 335 rarely came into direct contact with the enemy. Only a few such cases have been noted. According to unconfirmed reports, in the fall of 1944, one Do 335 (maybe Do 335V3) was damaged by allied fighters and made an emergency landing in the Reims area.
Confirmed the loss of one Do 335 - December 24, 1944 during a flight from Oberpfaffenhofen to Rechlin in the Donefeld area, Do 335A-08 (W.Nr. 240108), piloted by feldfebel Alfred Vollank, was lost. The pilot was killed, the cause of the loss of the aircraft is unknown. It could be a mechanical failure or a meeting with an adversary.
Other victims «Arrows» steel of-corporal Konrad Schaefer (March 1945) and ober-corporal Gustav Tesche (April 1945).
In mid-April 1945, the pilots of the RAF 3rd Squadron, who flew fighters «HawkerTempest»,met«Pfeil» over the Elbe. The plane leaving at high speed was the first to notice French ace Pierre Klosterman. Later, Do 335 saw the pilots of the 325th Fighter Group of the 15th US Air Force, who flew fighters "Mustang". In both cases, the German plane easily left the pursuers.
One Do 335 from Ekdo 335 on the casing had signs of aerial victories. It is safe to say that the pilot won these victories earlier, before he moved to the Do 335 cabin.
