Thanks for your edits on Improve Your Chess Opening. Nice catch here - thanks for fixing the grammar!

How are you liking patrolling so far? I know it can be a bit confusing at first, so if you have any questions about what to mark or what to rollback, let me know. I'd be happy to help!

Awesome! Have you edited on wikis before, or did you just hit the ground running here? Either way, great to have you :)

At 15:13, May 02, 2015

Hi there,

Okay, okay!
Sorry Lewis, I do not know what you meant by that as I've not left you any messages on your talk page! Did you intend the message for another person?

() 15:13, 2 May 2015 (GMT)

At 15:23, May 02, 2015

Oops! It looks like you accidentally approved a bad edit in while patrolling recent changes just now. That's okay though; you're still learning. I undid a batch of your recent patrols, to play it safe and have those edits reviewed again. I just want to make sure no bad edits were accepted while you're still learning your way around RC patrol.

If you haven't already, read our article on and give it another try! I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about patrolling. And remember, if you're not sure what to do, just press the "skip" button and you'll do fine :)

Hah, fair enough! Well let me know if you have any questions as you get to know wikiHow - patrolling in particular has a lot of ins and outs to it. So I'd be happy to help any time. Just send me a note if so :)

At 15:36, May 02, 2015

Hah Lewis! I got a little fed up with people rolling back my talk page when I was trying to tidy it up so I had little choice but beg not to revert my changes!!! How are you enjoying using wikiHow so far?

Hey Lewis, thanks for your help with patrolling! How are you liking wikiHow so far?

At 20:24, May 02, 2015

Hi Lewis,

Thank you for helping out with RC patrol! You're doing a great job.

I just wanted to let you know I reverted a few messages left on your talk page where users were swearing at you and calling you names. Please don't let this erratic behavior discourage you! The users have been warned and will probably be blocked soon. :)

At 00:43, May 03, 2015

Hi LewisMC. Thank you for starting a new article on wikiHow!

I noticed that a title you started () is very similar to a title we already have. It looks like they might be duplicates! On wikiHow, we consider two articles to be duplicates when their titles are practically interchangeable (even if the content is different). When we find a duplicate, we then work to make sure all the information ends up consolidated on one page, typically the one with the simpler, more commonly searched title. That way, our readers can find everything about that particular topic in one place.

If you agree that the title you started is a duplicate, you can help by adding your how-to advice to the other page. The duplicate page will likely get removed in about a week, and we don't want to lose all the great information you provided. If you don't think your article is actually a duplicate, feel free to leave a note on the discussion page (which you can find ) explaining why, and let me know, too. Sometimes we make mistakes, and we definitely don't want to delete it if it is different!

If you have any questions or need help with anything, just reply to this message. Thanks again for contributing!

Hey there.

Thank you for using the Tips Patrol to help us out. Your efforts to improve articles are greatly appreciated!

I just wanted to offer some advice that might help you become a better tips patroller. Since wikiHow attracts millions of readers per day, we want to make sure each tip is high quality and helpful. Therefore, it's important to make sure the tips are accurate, free of spelling and grammar errors, not too obvious or a warning, and don't repeat themselves.

If you come across a helpful tip that could use some improvement, you can make the necessary changes in the text box before publishing it. If you aren't sure how to improve the tip, or just don't want to fix it, you can always click "Skip". For more information, check out .

Thanks again for helping out on Tips Patrol. I do hope you keep at it! Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm always happy to help.

Hi there and thanks for the thumbs up!

At 21:17, May 03, 2015

Your article is a duplicate of . We just have to delete duplicates because people will become confused. But that's okay! Thanks for writing an article and have a great day.

At 03:05, May 04, 2015

Hey Lewis!

Thanks for sharing - any chance you could add screenshots?

Also, to follow up on Hootooshay's message - One good tip would be to Search wikiHow for duplicates before any new article creations. Since this is a collaborative site, we recommend that you improve an existing article on your topic rather than writing a new one :)

At 17:21, May 04, 2015

Hi! Thanks for writing ! It doesn't look like a joke to me- some people don't know how to use computers very well, and need help with things like that! As long as all the information is accurate, we're glad to have it here.

Thanks for answering that request, and I hope you keep writing! Have a great day!

Hey hey Lewis,

Thanks for starting How to Log in to WordPress!

I hope you don't mind - I did a little bit of editing to help it meet the guidelines in our Writer's Guide. Can you take a look and let me know what you think? I hope you like it, but don't worry if not - no changes on wikiHow are irreversible, and you're welcome to edit on it more, too. I'll go ahead and put it live for readers :)

Hey Lewis! I saw your message to patrol coach. There are automatic scenarios inserted, mainly for new patrollers, that the patrol coach will provide feedback on; either feedback that it was a good choice or feedback on what you did wrong and what the right choice was, so that you can learn from it. My advice would be to pay attention to that feedback. I hope this helps out!

Just stopping by to let you know that we usually revert edits like the one you made to Sandbox. You might not be familiar with wikiHow's policies yet, and that's alright. Everyone on this site learns as they go along, myself included. Your willingness to edit is still very much appreciated. Let me know if you need help with anything.

At 14:31, May 17, 2015

You nominated Sandbox for deletion although it is a legitimate article. Incase you have forgotten, what you did is .

At 18:46, May 17, 2015

Hi Lewis!

The Sandbox is indeed for testing and learning how to use templates. The page is just a collection of texts that doesn't have to be taken seriously- it's a sandbox after all :)

When you put the NFD tag on it, it actually nominated the article for deletion, which isn't what we want. If you were just testing templates, don't forget to remove any templates you placed, as it may create problems with the page.

Looks like you're doing a good job- how is the wikiHow experience going so far?

At 21:18, May 17, 2015

what are u talking about

At 21:32, May 18, 2015

Hey Lewis, just wanted to check in on how things are going :) Do you have any questions about wikiHow that I can answer? Looks like you got some helpful tips from Daniel about the sandbox, too!

At 21:51, May 18, 2015

Thanks for pointing out the wikihow:Sandbox page! That was a fake article, and somehow managed to stick around for all this time. Don't worry- I fixed it now.

So for future reference, don't nfd the Sandbox ;) Template testing is fine as long as they're removed afterwards.

At 22:35, May 18, 2015

Thanks for getting back to me, and no worries, it happens - sometimes RC slows down for me too and I have to remember to be patient and let it do its thing, rather than go click crazy and accidentally patrol or rollback stuff I shouldn't :)

AtError: Invalid time.

Where is my post box gone?

At 19:15, May 20, 2015

I saw your message above Lewis - don't worry; the post box just doesn't show on your own page. It shows to me though - I'll post here to prove it! :)

At 19:46, May 20, 2015

Nope, no worries - not just you!

At 01:09, May 21, 2015

Hey Lewis, thanks for helping out :) I just wanted to let you know that I removed the speedy template since the article did not appear to meet our criteria for speedy deletion -- it just appeared to be in need of more detail. Speedy deletion is usually reserved for spam, patent nonsense, personal attacks, and highly offensive pages. Let me know if you disagree with my decision, though - would be happy to touch base further :)

At 03:41, May 24, 2015

Hey Lewis, thanks for the response. I ; otherwise I don't think the article meets speedy deletion criteria, but I could be mistaken. Would be happy to discuss this more.

At 23:45, May 26, 2015

Thanks for your edits on . Cheers for the rollback there, Lewis - seems like less than helpful info, likely to backfire! Glad you caught it :)

At 13:18, Jun 02, 2015

Hi there,

I saw your message to someone on the help team. I just wanted to let you know that the help team is for any help actually, even if it's not related to wikiHow, including help needed about articles.

At 14:18, Jun 02, 2015

Hello, Thanks for the help. I will keep that in mind henceforward. :)

At 14:24, Jun 02, 2015

It doesn't mean wikiHow itself. Many people have asked for the articles before and other users continued helping them.

At 17:31, Jun 03, 2015

Thanks for helping out on the Help Team! I did just wanted to follow up with Hailey's point -- we do sometimes see requests for help on specific articles or on what to do in particular editing situations, and that's okay. The Help Team is for any help that folks need and one of us might be able to provide. If you don't want to answer a question like that, no problem - just leave it there and someone else can try to lend a hand down the line :)

At 18:10, Jun 08, 2015

Thank you! :)

At 15:07, Jun 10, 2015

No prob - thanks for getting the ball rolling on that! It's straightforward but hopefully helpful. Gets the job done! :)

At 18:19, Jun 11, 2015

Thanks for your edits on Make HTML by Using Note Pad. I had a question on this one - I appreciate your looking for topics to redirect to dups, but I'm not sure these really are exact dups. The ideas of HTML and a simple web page are very close, but I'm not sure they mean the exact same thing in all situations, since one is a markup lang and one is the end result. What do you think?

At 12:32, Jun 13, 2015

Thanks for the three thumbs up Lewis! =3

At 13:51, Jun 13, 2015

Even if the contents or method is similar, that doesn't mean they're duplicate topics. Our wikiHow:Merge Policy is based on whether the actual title itself means the exact same thing or not, not on whether the procedure is similar or overlapping. This is good for two reasons: it makes sure readers can find what they're looking for if they search one topic and not the other, and it means that the articles can still grow over time with new methods and approaches, without being locked in as dups when the topics really aren't. Check out the policy again and the examples there and let me know if you have questions. Cheers Lewis!

At 10:50, Jun 14, 2015

Hi! Keep up the good work on WikiHow!

At 16:01, Jun 14, 2015

I'm not saying that HTML isn't the way to produce a simple webpage. I'm saying that we don't merge two topics where the wordings don't mean the same thing, and here one refers to the language and another to the end result.

I'm not involved with COPPA forms directly. Did you send it to ?

At 17:59, Jun 14, 2015

That isn't how we determine merge targets. We base it on whether the two phrases of the topic mean the same thing or not. This helps readers who search for either topic find what they're looking for. We only merge where the actual topics mean the same thing, not where one is more specific than the other or where one refers to the means and the other to the end result. For example, how to change your oil is not merged into how to change your oil on a car or how to change your oil on a motorcycle, and how to write html is not merged with how to create a web page. Our wikiHow:Merge Policy lays it all out :)

At 18:34, Jun 15, 2015

It's not really silly; it's how a wiki works. Content can change a great deal over time, so we merge based on the topics, not the content itself. That way, even if "how to change your oil" and "how to change your oil in a car" look the same right now, they can still grow into different, more detailed articles later - for example, the broad topic can have submethods on how to change your oil in a car, in a boat, etc. They might be very different approaches, and it's okay that we have articles for the general topic and for each of the specific ones :)
